11 American Funds Make the “Great 38” List

For the sixth year in a row, we are proud to say that the investment research firm Morningstar® has named American Funds to its list of standout mutual funds — the "Great 38." Eleven American Funds were selected out of more than 8,000 funds screened.

To qualify, a fund must have:

  • Expenses in the lowest quintile
  • A Morningstar Analyst Rating of Bronze or higher
  • Results exceeding the fund’s benchmark through the longest manager tenure
  • A risk level below Morningstar’s High category
  • A manager with at least five years’ fund experience
  • At least one manager with $1 million invested in the fund
  • A positive parent rating
  • Availability not limited to institutional investors
