CollegeAmerica (R) is a nationwide plan sponsored by Virginia 529 (SM)

All prices and year-to-date returns are as of April 17, 2014, 3:19PM Pacific time and subject to revision.

Figures shown are past results for Class 529-C shares and are not predictive of results in future periods. Current and future results may be lower or higher than those shown. Returns shown at net asset value have all distributions reinvested. If a sales charge had been deducted, the results would have been lower. Share price and return will vary, so investors may lose money. Investing for short periods makes losses more likely. Investments are not FDIC-insured, nor are they deposits of or guaranteed by a bank or any other entity, so they may lose value. An investment in the money market fund is not insured or guaranteed by the FDIC or any other government agency. Although the fund seeks to preserve the value of your investment at $1.00 per share, it is possible to lose money by investing in the fund.

Average annual total returns with sales charge [CDSC (contingent deferred sales charge)]: Returns assume all distributions are reinvested and reflect applicable fees and expenses. Class 529-C shares do not have an up-front sales charge. They do, however, carry a 1% contingent deferred sales charge on shares redeemed within 12 months of purchase.

The funds' annualized 30-day and 7-day SEC yields, which are calculated in accordance with the SEC formula, are shown below. View SEC yields without expense reimbursements. For money market funds, the annualized 7-day SEC yield more accurately reflects the fund's current earnings than does total return.

Definitions and other important legal information about these prices and returns are shown below.

Definitions and other important legal information

For funds of funds, investment allocations may not achieve fund objectives. There are expenses associated with the underlying funds in addition to fund of funds expenses. The funds' risks are directly related to the risks of the underlying funds as described below. For more information about the risks associated with each fund, go to its detailed fund information page or read the prospectus.

Investing outside the United States involves risks, such as currency fluctuations, periods of illiquidity and price volatility, as more fully described in the prospectus. These risks may be heightened in connection with investments in developing countries. Small-company stocks entail additional risks, and they can fluctuate in price more than larger company stocks. The value of fixed-income securities may be affected by changing interest rates and changes in credit ratings of the securities. Lower rated bonds are subject to greater fluctuations in value and risk of loss of income and principal than higher rated bonds.

Income from municipal bonds may be subject to state or local income taxes. Additionally, income from all tax-exempt bond funds except for The Tax-Exempt Bond Fund of America may be subject to the federal alternative minimum tax. Certain other income from tax-exempt bond funds, as well as capital gain distributions, may be taxable. Unlike mutual fund shares, investments in U.S Treasuries are guaranteed by the U.S. government as to the payment of principal and interest. In addition, certificates of deposit (CDs) are FDIC-insured and, if held to maturity, offer a guaranteed return of principal. State-specific tax-exempt funds are more susceptible to factors adversely affecting issuers of their states' tax-exempt securities than more widely diversified municipal bond funds.

The return of principal for bond funds and for funds with significant underlying bond holdings (New World Fund, Capital Income Builder, The Income Fund of America, American Balanced Fund, American Funds Global Balanced Fund, funds in the American Funds Portfolio Series and funds in the American Funds College Target Date Series) is not guaranteed. Fund shares are subject to the same interest rate, inflation and credit risks associated with the underlying bond holdings. Investments in mortgage-related securities involve additional risks, such as prepayment risk, as more fully described in the prospectus. Although American Funds Money Market Fund has 12b-1 plans for certain share classes, the fund is currently suspending certain 12b-1 payments in this low interest rate environment. Should payments commence, the fund’s investment results will be lower.

Price: shown at Net Asset Value (NAV). Class 529-C shares — the value of each share in your account. However, if you redeem shares within 12 months of purchase, you may be subject to a contingent deferred sales charge of 1%. All 529 classes are subject to a 10% federal tax penalty in addition to federal and, if applicable, state income tax if a redemption is not used for qualified higher education expenses.

Change ($): the amount (in dollar terms) that the value of the share price changed at the most recent close of the New York Stock Exchange.

YTD (year-to-date return): the net change in the value of the fund's shares (in percentage terms) from January 1, 2014, to the current date shown above. Returns assume all distributions reinvested and reflect all applicable fees and fund expenses. Short-term market volatility can seriously affect year-to-date returns. To help maintain a long-term perspective when considering your investments, review the one-, five- and 10-year returns.

Average annual total returns at net asset value [NAV (updated monthly)]: Returns assume all distributions reinvested and reflect all applicable fees and fund expenses.

Annualized 7-day yield: Calculated by annualizing dividends paid during the last seven days of the period. For money market funds, the annualized 7-day SEC yield more accurately reflects the fund's current earnings than does total return. For some funds, certain expenses may be reimbursed by the investment adviser. Without the reimbursement, the funds' yields would have been lower. View 7-day yields without expense reimbursement.

American Funds Money Market Fund Class A shares is the only share class in the American Funds offering check-writing privileges. It is also the only share class that can be exchanged into certain other share classes of other American Funds.

When a capital gain distribution is paid, the net asset value per share is reduced by the amount of the payment plus or minus any change in the value of the fund's holdings. Read our explanation of the effect of a capital gain on a fund's price for details. Two types of capital gains are realized by our funds — short-term and long-term. Net short-term capital gains are distributed to shareholders as income dividends and are taxed at ordinary income tax rates. Long-term capital gain distributions are taxed at a maximum 15% rate.

The share prices of all of our equity funds decrease when a dividend is paid. The share price of only one of our fixed-income funds, Capital World Bond Fund, also decreases when a dividend is paid. A fund pays a special dividend when the investment income generated by the fund exceeds the income the fund has paid in the form of dividends throughout the year. Special dividends are distributed with the last dividend payment at the end of the calendar year.

** Expense ratios are as of each fund's prospectus. The expense ratio for American Funds Developing World Growth and Income Fund is estimated. The investment adviser is currently reimbursing a portion of other expenses for American Funds Developing World Growth and Income Fund.
